About This Place

Located in the heart of San Francisco’s Marina District, Coffee Roastery is a charming coffee shop that stands out for its dedication to quality, community, and craft. Nestled at 2331 Chestnut St, this cozy neighborhood spot has earned a loyal following with its expertly roasted beans, inviting atmosphere, and warm, attentive service that feels like coming home.

Coffee lovers will find themselves spoiled by the impressive selection of both classic and unique coffee offerings here. From a robust House Coffee Espresso to indulgent creations like the velvety Chocolate Mocha Latte and the intriguingly named Bean Juice Made from Chestnut Cold Brew Preground, there is a sip for every mood and palate. The cold brew options are especially noteworthy—smooth and rich, they offer a refreshing kick that coffee connoisseurs prize. As one delighted visitor, Dagmara DRZAŁ, describes it, “The best coffee I’ve had in the entire USA — rich, smooth, perfectly balanced, and full of flavor. It reminded me why I love slow mornings and beautiful places.” Such praise speaks volumes about the roastery’s commitment to excellence.

Beyond the expertly brewed coffee, the menu features an array of freshly baked delights that perfectly complement each cup. Imagine biting into a buttery Ham and Cheese Croissant or savoring a warm Breakfast Bagel loaded with flavorful bacon, egg, and cheese—the very sandwich that Mayra Baca calls “delicious,” praising the comforting ambiance and heartfelt hospitality from the family-owned team. For those with a sweet tooth, the crumbly, nostalgic New York Crumb Cake and tender Scones offer a perfect balance of sweetness and texture to elevate your coffee break.

Comfort and community pulse through every corner of Coffee Roastery. It’s no surprise that visitors like Reagan W. feel right at home starting their day here, enjoying a plain toasted sesame seed bagel alongside a strong black coffee, while François Gilbert was so impressed by the quality and passion behind the beans that, even after closing, the staff graciously accommodated his order for his Aeropress at home. The owners—a welcoming Asian couple with their son—bring a genuine, family-oriented warmth that transforms a simple coffee run into a comforting experience, something customers fondly recognize as “feeling like the neighborhood mom.”

For those visiting with friends or family, Coffee Roastery offers a pleasant, relaxed environment with seating designed for connection—though if you're looking to work quietly for long hours, take note of their considerate two-hour seating limit aimed at keeping the vibe lively and accessible for all.

In summary, Coffee Roastery is much more than just a coffee shop—it's a treasured portal to slow mornings, meaningful sips, and community spirit in San Francisco. Whether you crave a meticulously crafted espresso, an energizing iced coffee, or a satisfying breakfast pastry, each visit promises genuine flavors and welcoming smiles worth savoring.

We visited the place in February 2025, We arrived just after the closing of the door, but the staff still welcomed us so we could buy coffee for our aeropress. If in Europe we often think that the coffee has bad reputation in the US, this shop proved that there are quality beans roasters, presented with love and care. We picked two variants as recommended and both were incredible. The coffee was traveling with us during our road trip until the Grand Canyon. Highly recommend !

The bacon, egg and cheese bagel is delicious. Great atmosphere and customer service. The shop is family owned, you’ll see an Asian couple and their son working the counter. Rose is very sweet and definitely feels like the neighborhood mom.

Nice cafe shop with good atmosphere. Came hear to work. They limit the tables for 2 hours. It is nice if you want to spend time with your family or friends. But it is not ideal for working. Of course good coffee! And ok pastry options.

Decent coffee but nothing extraordinary. The roast quality is fine, though some blends feel a bit flat. That said, the local vibe is great—cozy space, friendly staff, and a nice spot to hang out. Worth a visit if you’re in the area, but not a must-try.

Very good coffee. The cafe roasted their own coffee bean. It is very interesting that cafe opened by non western. Their coffee is one of the best in this area. The chocolate latte is interesting, very similar to mocha, but with chocolate form on top. I can see their coffee bean roasting process in store as well. The begal also very good. This cafe consider medium size. Very quick and friendly service. Majority of tables are clean. Customer had 2 hours limit seating, but very relax cafe. Accessible by public transport.

First of all the roasters has a great vibe to it. Clean interior and clean bathroom. The staff was friendly and considerate with us and the guests we saw while there. They make sure we're attended to and that we enjoy our coffee. The chocolate cafe latte was rich and creamy. The New York crumble cake was moist and warm, it was delicious!!
